Well... the computer repair did not go as smoothly as planned. It turns out that Microsoft (Evil, evil Microsoft) requires you to buy a new operating system when you get a new motherboard. GAH. I didn't even WANT Vista. So, bad enough to have to pay for an "upgrade" to our OS, I then had to re-install all our drivers and programs. And, wouldn't you know it, I couldn't find the CDs for half of them--including Photoshop. It wasn't till Tuesday till got to a point where I could scan and print.

But there's exciting news! Ok, it's exciting for me, anyway.  :)

My artwork was chosen for a page in a calendar for 2009!!!! Yay!! I feel all "pro" now. Go check it out at http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/fantasyart/emggroup.php?id=31

One of the paintings I finished while the computer was down is this one:

It's acrylic on masonite, which, I have to say, is the most wonderful surface to paint on. I bought the board pre-gesso'd and sanded from a bunch of art students on ebay (I need to find them again, they did a great job). I didn't expect painting on board to be so different from painting on illustration paper, but... wow. It was amazing the way that it took the paint.

Lovely painting, Kat. The depth and richness you are getting with acrylics is wonderful. Rock on!

Pretty! You should be able to find completely smooth gessoed board in art stores now. I got some clayboard a while ago to try oils on but haven't yet.

The closest art store is four hours away. :( I'll have to see what I can find online. I don't like buying art supplies online--it's like trying to buy clothes online. I need to touch and feel and hold them before I know if I will like them or not.

I have to say, the painting looks incredibly rich and the details are just amazing. There's something about this painting that brings a lot of depth and while I can't really explain it, I definitely notice it!

Hey, if you need painting supplies bought, I could buy you some if you told me what to get specifically and mail it to you. ;o)
